Saturdaze.

I did absolute shit for earth-day, earth-hour, whatever . . . what did you do?

As I sit here with my cold alcoholic beverage and some Koh-Kae peanuts, I hopped about and read this wonderful tidbit of information from Simon leBon himself:

It’s hotting up in this town. Nick Hodgson’s visit on Monday started us off on a (as this is online) .orgy of creation. Unlike God however, we will be taking not just Sunday, but Saturday and possibly today off to recover from the hangover which follows the kind of party we’ve had this week; forget the weekends – they are for wimps; I’m talking about Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Thank Dog it’s Friday – “I’m wanting me to go to rehab.”

Mark R is a quiet man really. Surprising then that his presence has such great effect, but it does. Sometimes we are the typical band where the one who shouts loudest, or holds out the longest, wins; that approach just doesn’t work with Mark producing the record. I think that we, as a band, have all been very aware of his understated manner, and there is a sort of unspoken understanding between us that we have to curb any sort of bombast for this project to work properly. And it does – we worked up three new songs yesterday alone, and at this rate we’ll be probably be able to match Prince – double album for double album this year.

BTW, does anybody actually want, sorry: does anyone actually know what to do – with a double album these days?

For the record, I want to say that I loved working with Timbaland, Justin & Nate Hills. And what’s more, for me there was nothing disastrous about Red Carpet Massacre – I still fckuen lov it.

And, possibly the best news today: We are free of SONY music corp.

I’m not surprised that Duran Duran parted ways with Sony (or vice versa). Sony did absolutely NOTHING to promote “Red Carpet Massacre.” (Which btw, I never received on vinyl–as bragged in a previous post–due to a computer error). However, the news of a double album did give me some minor Duranwood! For those of you not familiar with Mark Ronson, he’s a brilliant producer and he’s got an album called “Version” that you must check out. Notably, his collaboration with Robbie Williams on Blur’s classic, “The Only One I Know.” And yes, he’s Lindsay Lohan’s brother-in-law.

A song in constant rotation on my iPod is the Cure’s “Cut Here.” This song is about the suicide of friend of Fat Bob’s, Associates singer Billy Mackenzie, in 1997. “Cut Here” is an anagram for “The Cure” and was believed to be the last song the band would record. We all know that wasn’t the case thankfully. Listen to the lyrics and get lost in the beauty of the song.

“So we meet again!” and I offer my hand
All dry and English slow
And you look at me and I understand
Yeah it’s a look I used to know
“Three long years . . . and your favourite man . . .
Is that any way to say hello?”
And you hold me . . . like you’ll never let me go

“Oh c’mon and have a drink with me
Sit down and talk a while . . .”
“Oh I wish I could . . . and I will!
But now I just don’t have the time . . .”
And over my shoulder as I walk away
I see you give that look goodbye . . .
I still see that look in your eye . . .

So dizzy Mr. Busy – Too much rush to talk to Billy
All the silly frilly things have to first get done
In a minute – sometime soon – maybe next time – make it June
Until later . . . doesn’t always come
Until later . . . doesn’t always come.

It’s so hard to think “It ends sometime
And this could be the last
I should really hear you sing again
And I should really watch you dance”
Because it’s hard to think
“I’ll never get another chance
To hold you . . . to hold you . . . ”

But chilly Mr. Dilly – Too much rush to talk to Billy
All the tizzy fizzy idiot things must get done
In a second – just hang on – all in good time – wont be long
Until later . . .

I should’ve stopped to think – I should’ve made the time
I could’ve had that drink – I could’ve talked a while
I would’ve done it right – I would’ve moved us on
But I didn’t – now it’s all too late
It’s over . . . over
And you’re gone . . .

I miss you I miss you I miss you
I miss you I miss you I miss you so much

But how many times can I walk away and wish “If only . . .”
But how many times can I talk this way and wish “If only . . .”
Keep on making the same mistake
Keep on aching the same heartbreak
I wish “If only . . .”

But “If only . . .”
Is a wish too late . . .

Aside from that, my least favourite season is upon us. My allergies are at an all-time high, which puts me at an all-time low.

Music you must hear now:
1) Depeche Mode “Sounds of the Universe”
2) Peter Bjorn & John “Living Thing”
3) Silversun Pickups “Swoon”
4) Ida Maria “Fortress ’round My Heart”
5) PJ Harvey & John Parish “A Woman A Man Walked By”
6) Peter Doherty “Grace / Wastelands”
7) Yeah Yeah Yeahs “It’s Blitz!”

Here’s hoping our segment on www.wtfthepodcast.com on MegaCon gets posted within the week . . . keep checking it out and let me know when it shows up!

On a personal, I’m on “staycation” April 1-7 and I intend on doing probably as much as I did to celebrate earth-whatever.

Smooches.
